PC movement is trying to silence free speech

-

MY last letter to the Editor

referred to the suppression of free speech associated with the politically-correct dogma that prevails in this country at present.

The recent debacle at Batley Grammar School illustrates the point I was trying to make. It is only in this atmosphere of socialist extremism that such a persecution could take place.

Britain is a secular society, based on enlightenment and reason, freedom of thought and speech, where any opinion or belief is open to question, criticism or humour.

Unfortunately, the socialist PC mantra has all but extinguished this erstwhile heritage, and placed everyone in jeopardy.

Intolerance of what some may perceive as ‘offensive’ is inappropriate in this country.

At the gates of Mecca it might be different and any British person would respect that. But the cultural values and traditions of this country should be granted equal respect, and not be erased by the pervasive authoritarian philosophy of the neo-socialist movement, which exclusively supports the interests of minorities.

The PC manifesto of thought control has secreted itself into every institution and every aspect of public life in this country, without a single vote being cast in its favour.

It is undemocratic and dangerous, for every such incident as the one in Batley pushes public opinion further to the right – hence the predictable backlash.

The British are a fair and tolerant people, but there is a limit to what they will put up with.

I welcome the reader’s opinion, criticism, humour or offence.

Let vote do the talking

CAN anyone within Kirklees explain why they seem determined in preventing small business people in Huddersfield from been successful?

On this occasion I am not talking about the licensee of the Plumbers Arms, but Dixons Ice Cream seller in Beaumont Park who, if Kirklees have their way, will be replaced by Mr Whippy from Bradford.

These individuals are self-employed local people who rely very heavily on good weather to make a living to support their families and have carried on their trade in Beaumont Park for years.

This is not socialism and equal opportunities at work but smacks of communism and dictatorship and what we need in Huddersfield is change and the only way to bring this about is by voting at the upcoming local elections.

Unfortunately when it comes to voting at local elections people of middle England are lazy – they will vote at a General Election because they want to see change but there is a reluctance at local level. But if we are content to complain behind closed doors and not go out and vote we cannot instigate change.

Alternatively people could apply for a postal vote while there is still time but either way let’s get out and vote to bring about change on Kirklees Council for the benefit of the people of Huddersfield.
