Council set to approve £4m boost for schools
CASH WILL GO TOWARDS IMPROVEMENTS TO BE COMPLETED OVER SUMMER BREAK
SCHOOL buildings across Kirklees are to receive investment totalling more than £4m.
The cash, set to be approved by Kirklees Council’s decision-making cabinet next week, will go towards improvements such as new roofs, electrical equipment, heating and lighting systems, and access for children with disabilities.
Around £3m has been earmarked for specific projects, with approximately £1.2m set to be allocated to other works over the coming months.
The council says much work is being planned to take place during school holiday periods to minimise the impact on pupils and staff.
David Shepherd, the council’s strategic director for growth and regeneration, said it would be “a huge undertaking” to complete projects in so many different buildings during the six-week summer break “but that’s our commitment”.
