A FORMER footballer and his father-in-law appeared in court yesterday accused of various fraud charges.

Stephen Oleksewycz, 38, of Town Ing Way, Stainland, and Norman Graham, 57, of Aldercroft Avenue, Woodhouse Park, Manchester, made no indication of plea during the brief hearing at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Chelsea Brooke-Ward representing the Insolvency Service, said there were eight charges relating to Mr Oleksewycz dating back to 2016.

These included perjury as well as while being bankrupt he allegedly concealed property, namely £21,000, which he was required to deliver up to the Official Receiver.

Graham is said to have transferred or removed criminal property, namely £21,000, which he knew or suspected, represented Stephen Oleksewycz’s benefit from criminal conduct.

The bench granted both men, who were legally represented, unconditional bail.

They were told their next appearance would have to be before a judge at Leeds Crown Court on May 14 as the charges are so serious – perjury alone carries a seven-year maximum sentence. The defendant played football for Halifax Town until a knee injury caused him to quit at the age of 21.

He then became a DJ in Greece, then an event promoter in Greece, and finally set up a business hosting blacktie dinner charity events.

Among the many Hollywood stars he attracted to this country were Al Pacino, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.

In addition, the former Newcastle United and England footballer Paul Gascoigne was booked for an event in Halifax in 2011, as well as a host of boxing stars including Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Leonard.
