A PAEDOPHILE who sent a photo of his penis to a ‘14-year-old boy’ has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

Simon Nielson was using Kik Messenger when he was snared in a police sting, which also led to the discovery of a prohibited video he had depicting an ‘elf-like’ child being raped.

The 30-year-old, of Holme House Lane, New Mill, Holmfirth, had previously pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to one count of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and possessing a prohibited image of a child.

He has now been handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 30 months, with requirements to complete 31 sessions of the Horizon programme and 25 rehabilitation activity days.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for the next 10 years.

An undercover police officer pretended to be a 14-year-old boy called Jack on Kik Messenger as part of an operation called Reveal that is conducted by the regional organised crime unit and aims to find adults who are sexually interested in children.

Prosecutor Soheil Khan said Nielson messaged the profile on January 22, 2019 with his age, said he had seen his profile on the ‘Leeds teen gays’ Kik group and asked him if he wanted some ‘fun.’

Nielson asked ‘Jack’ about his sexual preferences and Jack said he had no experience.

He then asked ‘Jack’ if he liked talking to older men and sent a picture of his penis.

Leeds Crown Court heard that Nielson replied on February 4 that year, saying he wished he could have sex.

Mr Khan said Nielson was told several times that the ‘boy’ was aged 14.

Nielson was arrested in April that year. In his first police interview, he claimed he thought he had been talking to a 16-year-old.

In his second police interview, after the prohibited video was found, he made no comment.

Nielson has one previous conviction for a motoring offence.
