‘Tracy would be out of this world as mayor’
EX-STAR TREK STAR BACKS MP FOR NEW ROLE
HUDDERSFIELD legend and Hollywood actor Sir Patrick Stewart has thrown his weight behind Tracy Brabin’s campaign to be the first mayor of West Yorkshire.
Sir Patrick posted urging people to back the Batley and Spen MP in her bid to become mayor in May.
Speaking from Los Angeles, the actor said: “You may not know this about me, but I was born in West Yorkshire.
“My career had taken me away – I’m in Los Angeles at the moment – but the truth is, at heart, I’m still a West Yorkshireman.”
He continued: “Which is one reason why I am so delighted that West Yorkshire is going to have its own metro mayor, and I’m even more delighted that the candidate will be Tracy Brabin.
“So join me in supporting Tracy and voting Labour in May.”
Sir Patrick, who is famous for his roles in Star Trek and X-Men, was born in Mirfield on July 30, 1940.
He has retained his links to West Yorkshire as a former chancellor of Huddersfield University and as the president of the Huddersfield Town FC Academy.
Ms Brabin, herself a former actor, said: “It’s amazing to get an endorsement from one of the world’s most famous Yorkshiremen!
“I’m really grateful that Sir Patrick could take the time out to record a message of support and back my campaign.”
Tory candidate Matthew Robinson
turned to Star Trek puns to respond to the endorsement, saying: “My vision for West Yorkshire is to boldly go where no county has gone before, but I haven’t heard a plan from my opponent as every time we’re due at a hustings she seems to have been beamed up!”
West Yorkshire voters will head to the polls on May 6 to elect their first-ever metro mayor.
