ORGANISERS SAY PLANS ARE ‘IN FULL THROTTLE’

A ‘GROUNDBREAKING’ motorsport festival will see Aston Martins, Bentleys and Jaguars tackle the hills of Holmfirth this June after organisers were given the green light to continue with preparations.

The Yorkshire Motorsport Festival (YMSF) is set to make its Kirklees debut on June 25 and will see a huge array of cars descend on the region.

The festival was due to take place in 2020 but preparations were brought to a halt by the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, organisers have been given the green light for this year’s event after being awarded the Covid-19 industry standard and consumer mark by Visit Britain.

It is hoped the festival, which is set to be the first of its kind in the region, will attract petrol heads and festival goers alike.

At its heart will be three days of hill-climbing featuring cars from pre-1986.

Those set to compete in ‘The Wolfstones Hill Climb’ include Bentleys, Jaguars and Special Saloons some of which will be driven by motorsport’s top names - with more than 80 drivers per day going headto-head in a bid to set the quickest time.

Festival goers will also be able to enjoy displays of vintage vehicles, rally cars, trucks and many more - as well as stunt shows, aerial displays and driver simulators.

Early evenings will feature a full line-up of live music - including Queen, Robbie Williams and Abba tribute acts.

Michael McErlain, CEO of YMSF, said: “We are in full throttle as we prepare for the festival.

“This is something truly spectacular that people can look forward to in the near future that combines the best of the country’s motorsport attractions with the bonus of family entertainment.

“Most of the activities take place outside, and we are putting every precaution in place, going the extra mile to ensure that our event is safe for everyone.

“We are operating a no cash event, with all transactions completed by contactless payments, and we ask all visitors to comply with our safety directions and advisories.”

Subject to national coronavirus restrictions, the festival will take place on June 25, 26 and 27.

Tickets start at £25. For more information, visit the website at ymsf.net.
