Disgust as drinker stuffs soiled nappy in pint glass

IT seems some drinkers have forgotten how to behave after five months of pubs being closed.

Over the weekend YorkshireLive reported how the Blacksmith’s Arms at Kirkheaton had reduced its opening hours after unruly behaviour late on Friday night.

Now two more Huddersfield pubs have revealed disgusting incidents occurred over the weekend.

Staff at the Wills O’Nats at Meltham were left to deal with a used nappy shoved into a pint glass.

Over in Shepley, management at the Toss O’Coin revealed a number of people walked out without settling their bills – forcing them to suspend tabs from now on.

Wills O’Nats co-managers Robyn and Adam condemned whoever had left the soiled nappy.

“You could say someone wasn’t NAPPY with their visit!” quipped Robyn.

“It’s just grim,” she added. “We do have a bin in the beer garden.

“If they couldn’t see it they should have bagged it and taken it home with them, or gone to the toilet and used the bins in there.”

Adam said it had been a tough weekend as the new team got to grips with the Covid rules and systems.

“No one expected it to be quite as busy as it was,” he said.

“There’s been a lot of hard work. The majority of customers were happy but a lot of people weren’t expecting such long waits on food and drink.

“But to leave a used nappy in a glass is unacceptable.

“It’s disgusting, there’s no need for it.” Meanwhile, management of the Toss O’Coin on Penistone Road, Shepley, put out a statement revealing they had lost a “large sum of money” to a number of customers who had done runners on Saturday.

Writing on their Facebook page, they said: “We have had a busy couple of days and would like to thank everyone for their patience as we adapt to a new way of operating due to the Covid rules. Yesterday we unfortunately had a minority of tables leave without paying their tabs, costing us personally quite a large sum of money, we will review our CCTV but going forward we have taken the decision that no tabs will be allowed, drinks will be served and paid for promptly on receipt.

“As our garden is so big there will be a wait for drinks during busy times but please rest assured our staff are trying to be as quick as possible whilst abiding by Covid rules.”
