A WEDDING venue has hit back at claims suggesting couples affected by its sudden closure could be left without full refunds.

Crow Hill Weddings unexpectedly announced on Friday it had been forced to cease trading.

The popular venue, off Carrs Road in Marsden, blamed the impact of the coronavirus pandemic - as well as Brexit.

Several couples have contacted The Examiner to express concerns that they could be left thousands of pounds out of pocket after their wedding plans were scuppered.

But Crow Hill Weddings has now fully refuted those claims - and vowed every couple affected by its closure will soon receive a refund.

The company said it is currently working through its refunds procedure “as fast as possible”, adding its “relatively small number of couples” have all been contacted. A statement given to The Examiner read: “Customers who have already received their refunds have been very sympathetic and supportive of the situation, as well as happy with the refund process.

“Some of these couples have also let us know that they are already looking at, or have booked, new venues and are looking forward to their upcoming wedding celebrations in a different setting.

“The refund process is well under way, as we only have a relatively small number of couples. For couples who held a booking at the time of the business closing, the matter of receiving a refund for payments made to Crow Hill was never in question.

“We are working through this procedure as fast as possible, and all clients affected by the closure of the business have been contacted.

“Unfortunately, as a small family business, it is with great sadness that we are no longer able to host weddings at Crow Hill. Due to Covid-19 and the effect it has had on the wedding industry, it is not financially viable for us to re-open Crow Hill for weddings, as couples have had to continue to cancel and postpone their wedding celebrations.

“These are very hard times for the weddings and events sector and we are now in the second year of non-trading.

“We fully appreciate that couples are devastated that their wedding will no longer be able to take place at Crow Hill, and by no means has this decision been taken lightly.

“We realise that couples have been waiting a long time for their wedding day, and everyone at Crow Hill is heartbroken that we will not be able to make their special day a reality.

”This is why we contacted the couples affected individually, and have assured each client who holds a booking that they will receive a refund.”
