Campbell ruled out for two weeks, but Yaya could return

HUDDERSFIELD Town will be without Fraizer Campbell and midfielder Alex Vallejo when Barnsley come to the John Smith’s Stadium tonight, with left-back Harry Toffolo also a doubt.

The striker went down under a challenge in the first half against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon and had to be replaced by Danny Ward before the break.

Campbell is now expected to be out for at least two weeks.

However, Yaya Sanogo has a chance of making his return against the promotion-chasing Tykes after sitting out the last two games with a lacerated foot.

The forward completed 90 minutes against Rotherham but was not able to play a part against Bournemouth or Forest.

Town boss Carlos Corberan revealed that Sanogo returned to training yesterday and a decision will be made about his availability based on his performance in the afternoon session.

The same is also true of Carel

Eiting, who has been back working at Canalside for the past few weeks after returning from a knee operation he had in the Netherlands in January.

The Ajax loanee has not played since January 2 but could be in contention for a place in the matchday squad to face

Barnsley.

If Eiting is cleared to return he would be the fifth long-term absentee to come back into the Terriers fold over the past few weeks after the returns of wingers Rolando Aarons, who came off the bench against Bournemouth, and Josh Koroma, who was an unused substitute on Saturday.

Centre-back Tommy Elphick was included on the bench for the trip to Norwich City after 18 months out with a knee injury, and Toffolo was a surprise starter at the City Ground just a day after returning to full training.

Corberan indicated that Toffolo will now be assessed ahead of the Barnsley game to see if he is able to play a second game in quick succession so soon after making his comeback after more than two months out with a back injury.

Vallejo will definitely miss the Barnsley game as he continues to recover from a concussion suffered in the 1-1 draw against Brentford on April 3, with Corberan explaining the midfielder is back in partial training but is still not cleared to head the ball.

Isaac Mbenza was omitted from the squad for the 2-0 victory over Forest as, like right-back Pipa, he has been struggling with a groin injury that requires him to play through the pain.

With Town’s squad now suddenly boasting a surfeit of fit-again senior wingers, Corberan felt that Aarons, Koroma and Sorba Thomas were better options from the bench at the weekend, and the Terriers boss will need to weigh up his options again for the Barnsley game and decide whether to bring Mbenza back into the squad.
