THE VERDICT: BLACKBURN 5 TOWN 2 ‘I know we’re not getting the results we should be’

TOWN RATED PRESSURE MOUNTING ON CARLOS AFTER ROVERS LOSS

- By STEVEN CHICKEN @examinerHTAFC

RYAN SCHOFIELD

HAD his Achilles heel exposed again as he flapped uselessly at the cross for Blackburn’s opener. Should have saved Gallagher’s strike too, and nearly handed Blackburn a sixth goal ..............................

PIPA

CAUGHT up the pitch as Blackburn cut through the defence to make it 2-0. Continued to play beneath his level with his groin issue clearly still holding him back. Regardless, left way too much space behind him that Blackburn repeatedly exploited ..................................

RICHARD KEOGH

VERY lucky his lapse didn’t let Blackburn double their lead midway through the first half - only for him to fail to cover Pipa and let Blackburn in to score moments later ............................................

NABY SARR

SLOPPY on the ball and found wanting in defence on a couple of occasions too. Cleared one of the line ..............................

HARRY TOFFOLO

STAYED back to let Pipa push higher up the pitch. Fitness concerns may have played a part but either way, that’s never going to get the best out of the full-back. Not great defensively either ....................

CAREL EITING

RESPONSIBLE for Town’s few moments of quality in the first half. Felt bad for him walking back in to this in truth, like coming back home to find your house on fire ................................................................

CARLOS Corberan’s Terriers were soundly beaten by Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park - the third time this season his side have conceded five goals or more since December.

Adam Armstrong scored a hattrick with Ben Brereton and Sam Gallagher netting the others for Rovers, all within the space of the first hour. Town scored through a Ryan Nyambe goal just before the break and Josh Koroma added a second consolation goal late on.

The result leaves the Terriers potentially still in need of three more points to guarantee their safety from relegation, and also piles the pressure on the Town boss.

Here’s everything Corberan had to say after his side’s abject performance...

IT was a very negative performance. Very negative result.

Very disappointing feeling because we wanted to come here and add the points that were necessary to get our target. We didn’t do, then for me there’s some areas of the game that we made many mistakes of different players and all at the same time.

We started really badly, we conceded two goals we have to avoid. We finished with a bit of a better feeling in the last minutes of the first half. After, we wanted to go for the game. We wanted to take some risks, trying to attack more, because we know the most important thing for us was to try to go for the three points.

We didn’t do and in the moments when we maybe lost a bit of balance, the opponent used our loss of balance from a positional point of view to counter-attack and used again another mistake to make the third goal.

After the third goal everyone started to lose the joy and when everyone starts to lose the joy you start to lose the energy too, and after that you can only concede one and one and more goals.

They’re five goals you cannot do and at the end we scored the second goal that was not enough to chance the feeling that we have right now.

WITHOUT any type of doubt. When you go 2-1 to the dressing room I think you need to go and see if you can change the dynamic of the game and make some risks that sometimes you need to prevent more but it’s the only option you have to try and change the result.

Even in the first minutes of the second half the feeling was positive. We were starting to recover more balls in the offensive half, we were starting to attack better. But at the same time taking some risks in the back when you need control to not concede goals like we conceded.

Kaminski, Nyambe (Bennett, 74), Lenihan, Harwood-Bellis, Bell, Travis (Davenport, 64), Evans, Brereton, Rothwell (Buckley, 74), Gallagher (Elliott, 74), Armstrong (Dolan, 74). Subs: Holtby, Pears, Douglas, Trybull.

I DON’T know what happened but it’s clear that if we want to be a competitive team we need to reduce the number of mistakes and especially the mistakes that are going to cost the team goals.

It’s clear that if you concede goals when the opponents are not making enough things, we are not going to be competitive. It’s very difficult to change a

result when you concede goals like the ones we conceded.

It’s true that during the year we’ve seen this more times, it’s not the first time we’ve seen it, and it’s something that makes us feel worried, of course, and something that as the one responsible for the club and the team, I need to solve, because it’s important to finish the year first of all reaching our target and second competing how we have to compete.

■■For the first goal Ryan Schofield made an error. He doesn’t seem comfortable with crosses like that. Is that an issue he’s working on?

WE know that for many players we have in the team it’s been a
