A WELL-KNOWN Italian restaurant is to shut after bosses posted a heartfelt statement announcing its closure.

Trattoria Domenico in Imperial Arcade, Huddersfield, posted on Facebook yesterday to inform diners that despite a fundraising campaign, not enough money has been raised to save the restaurant.

Last year, the owners of the family-run establishment pleaded with the public for help to raise £25,000 which would allow them to open in the future.

However, Trattoria Domenico will now shut for good, leaving its fans devastated.

In a post on Facebook, the restaurant said: “To begin with. We are thankful and indebted to all customers of Trattoria Domenico. For all the years of dining and support.

“We are grateful. At heart, we are thankful for donations and the crowdfunding that we received in December. We are forever gratified. Although we have had to put a firm hand down onto the table. To sadly say that we could not pull through.

“We sincerely apologise that we have had to make this decision. We have had to face this reality. Yet, we finish with our heads up high. And we would never forget, the gratitude and love that was received to Trattoria Domenico.

“Inside us all we will always be touched. By all the customers’ appreciation and respect. Ten years of devotion and passion. We have had to turn off the flame. And say that we have shut down.

“Trattoria Domenico will forever be in the minds of our customers and family.

“With all our love we will miss you all.”

We have to turn off the flame. And say that we

have shut down.

The post attracted dozens of comments, with many expressing their sadness and wishing the family luck.

One wrote: “Oh no! So sad to hear this. Best wishes to your lovely family and will always have the wonderful memories of dining and celebrating at your fabulous restaurant.”

One fan posted: “Such saddening news, we always had such wonderful meals and service.

“All the best for the future.”

Another added: “The ending of a chapter and a very sad day for us all. Salvo, Peppi, all your family, we shall miss the happiness you all brought to me and mine. Until the next time.”

Others said they were “absolutely gutted” after hearing news of the restaurant’s demise with one posting “you were our favourite restaurant in Huddersfield”.
