Angry residents hit back after town ‘cesspit’ jibe

THE community of Hebden Bridge has hit back after a note called the town a “cesspit”.

It all started when a prankster replaced books in a community box library with pornographic literature in nearby Cornholme.

The prank went viral on social media when an angry note was left attached to the box, asking for the individual to stop what they were doing in the ‘good God fearing town of Cornholme.’

And in classic Yorkshire style, the Cornholme resident who left the message had to have a jibe at local market town Hebden Bridge, branding the creative valley town as a “cesspit”.

The post reads: “NOTICE. Whoever is placing the copies of pornographic literature in here, please stop!

“Cornholme is a good God fearing village. If this filth is to your liking may we suggest that you move to the cesspit that is Hebden Bridge.”

But now Hebden Bridge has had its say and hit back with a note of its own about Cornholme.

A new note can be seen that says: “NOTICE. Whoever is placing religious material in our community revolutionary, drug cultivation, devil worshipping, naturalist, pornography and knitting library, stop!

“Hebden Bridge is a good free thinking town. If this filth is to your liking may we suggest you move to the God bothering up tight holier than thou village of Cornholme.”

The saga has received a huge response of social media with Hebden Bridge trending on Twitter.

Emma Walker, Cotton said: “Excellent, Hebden Bridge replies. #happyvalley”

Lucy Miller added: “I foresee a battle in the West Yorkshire hills #HebdenBridge.”
