Thousands demand sacking of officer who attacked puppy

captured repeatedly punching a terrified springer spaniel puppy on the head and body after losing his temper with him.

“This man’s behaviour is both shocking and shameful and falls well short of the standard the public expects of its police officers. This should be exemplary and beyond reproach.

“I would urge GMP to remove him from the force and I can not understand why he has not even been suspended.

“They claim that he will now face investigation but I do not understand what there is to investigate when he has already been convicted and sentenced in a court of law. He is a criminal serving in your force and the video evidence more than speaks for itself.

“GMP also needs to send a clear message to the public that animal cruelty is taken seriously. It is not a trivial crime and many animal abusers will also hurt people.

“A zero-tolerance approach is a must and you can start by making an example of this cruel and violent officer.

“In a week where the Animal Welfare sentencing bill receives Royal assent, I find it appalling that Dunn only received 120 hours of unpaid work.

“The barbaric Martin Dunn has now been featured in local and national press and has brought huge shame on Greater Manchester Police.”

When the video was uploaded onto YouTube by Alex Belfield one woman said: “My blood is at boiling point. God help this monster if I ever see him.

“I hope the little dog has been taken away from that toxic atmosphere.

Another woman said: “He ought to be dismissed immediately.”

When The Examiner first reported that West Yorkshire Police had charged Sgt Dunn, GMP said: “PS Dunn is currently on restricted duties and the matter has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch.”
