Ellie’s back on stage for shows with sax appeal

TICKETS for two concert dates at the Piece Hall in Halifax sold out in minutes after they went on sale this week.

All proceeds raised from the Ellie Sax gig will be donated to mental health charity Andy’s Man Club.

Tickets originally only went on sale for one date on the May 30, but after it sold out quickly, the organisers added another date on May 31, which also sold out in five minutes

Ellie is a saxophone player who has played at parties, clubs and festivals all over the world, from the Maldives to the Caribbean, but stayed much closer to home over the pandemic.

She said: “Throughout lockdown we did live streams throughout Yorkshire to keep us going through challenging times.

“Now that we can meet up, safely, we wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s supported us by having a good old party at The Piece Hall.”

During lockdown, Ellie streamed herself playing with a DJ from locations over Yorkshire, including the Piece Hall in Halifax.

Due to the success of the live stream, the Piece Hall invited her back to perform live in front of an audience after lockdown, in a Covid -safe manner.

A spokesperson for Piece Hall said: “We’re delighted to bring Ellie Sax to The Piece Hall again, this time for people to enjoy live, in person.

“Our livestream in lockdown was so popular and we promised to bring them here once lockdown restrictions were eased and we have.

“Ellie and her team and ourselves are really pleased that both shows were a sell-out within minutes of going on sale.

“Originally, Ellie was only scheduled to do the one show, on May 30, but due to huge demand she kindly agreed to a second gig as it’s for such an important cause. Mental health is such an important issue for us all and Andy’s Man Club do such great work in this regard.”

Andy’s Man Club aims to prevent suicides in men by running sessions across the UK allowing men to talk about their mental health in a safe environment.

In order to present the shows in a Covid-safe way, the Piece Hall capped the audiences at 500 people, who will be in a cordoned viewing area large enough to allow social distancing.
