Brabin’s got a big job to succeed in Mayoral role
TRACY Brabin has been elected the Mayor of West Yorkshire with a resounding victory but, before she gets big headed, I might point out that if a monkey wearing a red rosette had stood for the position, it would have won.
It’s alright having a Mayor that we the public had no choice in the making of that decision, but it’s just another layer of bureaucracy which will have to be paid by us tax payers. I might also point out that Ms Brabin is only there by default following the tragic death of Tracy Cox. Let’s see now if she treats every town and city the same.
Fond farewell, skipper
IT is with a touch of sadness that we hear the news confirming our Club captain Christopher Schindler is to leave and return home to Germany.
Sadness in that his long term injury and the absence of supporters robbed both he and us of saying goodbye on the field and in the blue and white shirt he wore with obvious pride.
He wouldn’t claim to be the best player we’ve ever had but a more than admirable one who always gives his best, leading by example both on and off the field. Like Jonathan Hogg, he epitomises the type of player and person we need to attract to the club to help right some of the recent wrongs.
There is a trend developing for recognising the endeavours of past players, some after their sad passing and some after retirement. I appreciate Chris has only been with us for five years but I for one would think it highly appropriate to name our new and vastly improved training facility in his honour. There is little doubt that a lot of money has been wasted over the last few years but this at least will be a lasting legacy from the riches of the
Premier League. And to be fair, striding forward on that May afternoon, head held high, it was his nerveless penalty that paid for it.
Hopefully he and his family will return in the not too distant future when we can all be there to give him the send off he deserves.
