WILL IN FOR GOOD KNIGHTS SORBA’S PRIDE!

THOMAS DELIGHT AT MAKING DEBUT FOR WALES

- By TOM COATES

HUDDERSFIELD Town winger Sorba Thomas admitted he was ‘speechless’ when he was told he would be making his international debut.

The 22-year-old was rewarded for his scintillating form at club level with his first call-up to the Wales squad and entered the fray as a 76th-minute substitute in a 2-2 draw against Czech Republic on Friday.

Thomas was plying his trade in the National League with Boreham Wood as recently as January but has made great strides since joining the Terriers, particularly impressing this season.

“When the manager told me to warm up, I thought ‘I could get my chance here’,” said Thomas.

“As soon as he told me I was coming on the pitch, I was speechless. In my head I was thinking ‘just let me touch the ball, let me get the first touch out of the way and then after that I’ll be fine’.

“I was so excited and I hope I’ve done my mum proud.

“I’m even scared to go and open my phone, I can tell my phone’s going to go off the roof. I really hope I did them proud, that was for them, I know they’re at home watching so I hope all of them enjoyed that. Hopefully

(there is) many more to come.”

Having been a bit-part player after making the step up to the Championship last season, Thomas has made an electric start to the campaign and has already registered six league assists.

He is the second Terriers player to be handed a debut during the current international break after Scott High made his first appearance for Scotland Under-21s on Thursday.

Thomas showed off his match-worn shirt after the game, which has been signed by his new international team-mates.

He said: “I had to get all the boys to sign this, this might have to go in a special frame.”
