IT WILL BE BUSINESS AS USUAL AT TOWN

CLUB MOVES TO REASSURE FANS OF STABILITY AFTER NEWS OF CHAIRMAN’S COMPANY

- By STEVEN CHICKEN

HUDDERSFIELD Town have moved to reassure fans that chairman Phil Hodgkinson’s business going into administration does not affect the club’s financial position or put them at risk of going into administration themselves.

The Town chairman’s Liverpool-based legal firm Pure Legal Ltd and several associated limited companies have entered administration, but his 75 per cent shareholding in Huddersfield Town is held under a completely separate and legally unrelated limited company, Pure Sports Consultancy Limited.

That means there is no risk that the difficulties at Pure Legal will transfer on to the football club.

Sources told The Examiner that club players and staff were updated on the situation on Wednesday morning after reports emerged in the legal press.

Although Hodgkinson, remains chairman of the club, former chairman Dean Hoyle remains 25pc owner of the club after his majority sale to Hodgkinson in July 2019, and it is to be assumed that he will resume responsibility for putting money into the club should the need arise.

We understand that the club’s wages for October were financed by Hoyle.

A statement on the club website reads: “The PURE Group, former shirt sponsor PURE Legal Limited and the other listed companies are led by Huddersfield Town chairman Phil Hodgkinson. It was announced yesterday (Tuesday, November 2, 2021) that these nine companies have been placed into administration.

“Mr Hodgkinson holds 75pc of the club’s shares through PURE Sports Consultancy. This company is not part of this action and, as such, is legally unaffected.

“Our board of directors would like to assure Town fans that the Club remains able to meet its financial commitments over the short, medium, and long term. Our day-to-day activities remain unaffected, and our full focus is on Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship game at Cardiff City.”

Town are enjoying a good start to the Championship season and sit fifth in the table after 16 games after their 1-1 draw at Peterborough United on Tuesday evening.
