Matt makes a point as he claims Harriers win

“Unfortunately in a tight game we’ve come off the wrong end of the stick. I can’t fault anything we’ve done.

“We fought unbelievably hard through this tournament and I’ve actually thought we represented ourselves really well. Tonight we did the same thing but we’ve come up short.

“That can happen in cricket but I’m extremely proud of the guys.”

Morgan added: “We’re a six-hitting side, we like hitting sixes and we struggled to hit sixes. That’s a pretty good indication of the wicket that was potentially a bit two-paced. It was probably about a par score and we felt right in the game at the halfway stage. Given the start we had, taking early wickets, it couldn’t have been any better.”

LONGWOOD Harriers’ annual Point to Point Handicap race was won by Matt Tate, with Alex Whitehead, Lucy Fairburn and Harriet Ayres claiming the Junior races.

The Senior race objective was to run from the Newsome Scout Hut to Farnley Tyas, via Castle Hill, using any legal route.

Every runner decided to take the unadventurous, but safer option, of running on the road there and back.

Phil Mitchell had the fastest time of 32.51 mins, just pipping Simon Parkinson to the post after being neck-and-neck for the whole race.

However, with the handicap applied, it was fourth-placed Tate who took the honours and the trophy. Helen Roby was second in 32.37 and Parkinson third in 32.42. Also running were Donald Kennedy, Holly Brewster, Neve Hardcastle, Owen Whitehead and James Scholes.

The juniors ran a different course – a mile (one lap) for the Under-11s and two miles (two laps) for the Under-16s.

The top three in the Under-11s, with handicap applied, were Harriet Ayres in 8.21 minutes, Noah Scholes in 8.52 and Fraser Carter 13.20.

The top three in the Under-16s, with handicap applied, were Alex Whitehead in 12.59 minutes, Lucy Fairburn in 13.43 and Alice Kaye with 13.58. Whitehead also took the fast time award and trophy with a time of 14.14.
