Pryce gives Watto some rich pickings

YOUNGSTER’S FORM LEAVES GIANTS BOSS WITH SELECTION DILEMMA

HUDDERSFIELD Giants boss Ian Watson admits the emergence of teenage sensation Will Pryce will leave him with an embarrassment of riches in two key positions next season.

Pryce shot to prominence in spectacular fashion this year, making his debut against Catalans Dragons in July before cementing a regular place in the Claret and

Gold side during the second half of the season.

Yet with Tui Lolohea and Theo Fages arriving from Salford Red Devils and St Helens respectively, and Jack Cogger and Olly Russell also competing for a place in the halves, competition will intensify.

Pryce could fill the full-back role ahead of Ashton Golding - Watson is also keen to secure Olly AshallBott on a new deal - but the coming weeks will determine how the battle unfolds. Watson told the Examiner: “We’ll go through preseason training and see what best fits for us, but Will can play fullback and also six (stand-off ).

“We chose to use him as a six this year because we didn’t want to put too much pressure on him in terms of the amount of work, running and communication he’d need to do at full-back.

“He handled that really well and we kept dropping him into full-back for 20-minute periods during games, just so he had a feel for that position too.

“I think his best position probably will be full-back, but the beauty of Will is he can play six and it’s about balancing his workload as he’s only a young lad.

“While there will be big things expected of him, we just want him to work really hard, keep learning and do his job.

“He will be an important part of our squad next year. How good can Will be? He’s a special talent who wants to learn and to get better.

“In pre-season of 2021, we had Will Pryce and Fenton Rogers training with us and within two weeks I was telling Andy (Kelly, head of youth) and Richard (Thewlis, managing director) that they needed to sign them up.

“You could see their ability and level of education, not just from Huddersfield but from their
