Corberan wants to keep Josh onside

- By STEVEN CHICKEN

There are still some details that need to be agreed upon before anything is confirmed.

Although a purse split is said to have been agreed, there are still some minor contractual issues to be resolved.

CARLOS Corberan says a desire to make Josh Koroma ‘continue feeling important’ lay behind his decision to bring the winger back into the side after a spell out of the Terriers’ starting lineup.

Expectations on the winger were high coming into this season after he finished last term as Huddersfield Town’s top scorer despite missing over half the campaign with a hamstring injury, but he had managed just two goals so far this season and was dropped from the first XI entirely for the three games prior to Wednesday evening’s 1-0 defeat at QPR.

Koroma came back into the side for that game – with Sorba Thomas dropped to the bench for the first time this season – starting on the left of the front three before switching positions with Danel Sinani to move across to the right instead.

Thomas replaced Koroma in the 71st minute of the game in a straight swap with the game still goalless, but Luke Amos popped up with the hosts’ winning goal ten minutes later.

Head coach Corberan explained: “I think it was important to play with Josh as one of the wingers.

“I think Josh is a specific winger that I wanted to make him involved and continue feeling important in this squad and this process.

“We had the opportunity to play with Tom Lees (as a starter) and with Koroma too without losing the structure of the team, because the other day (against West Brom) Sorba was playing as a winger, the same position that I played Koroma (against QPR), and Lees was playing instead of Sarr.

“So keeping the same idea with the structure, we wanted to have a couple of changes to allow us to be an even more competitive team.

“But it’s true that at the end we tried to keep this structure because we were thinking the game was very defensively demanding and we could have used an offensive wing-back that can be Sorba Thomas, (but) I was thinking the key to compete this game was to be strong in defence and use the counter-attacks.

“The change was to use the speed of Sorba Thomas (from the bench) because at the moment we brought him into the game we had some good opportunities on the counter-attack to unbalance (the game) and to score.

“But unfortunately we didn’t do that, and they (QPR) used one of their chances to score the goal.”
