Terriers looking for gift of goals in festive season

- By DAVID HARTRICK @examinerHTAFC

HUDDERSFIELD Town’s November could best, and perhaps a bit charitably, be described as patchy.

An okay draw at Peterborough and an excellent home win over West Brom were sandwiched by late defeats to Cardiff and QPR, and then one of the Terriers’ worst performances of the season to date against Middlesbrough.

So four points from a possible 15 means a slip from fifth to eighth in the Championship.

Town need to have a strong December. With that in mind we thought we’d check in to see how their upcoming opponents are faring... such are the margins in this division they are not actually a million miles away from where Town are.

This is likely to be a tight game from the off. Coventry are playing as a real collective this season, more than one knowledgeable observer has described them as a bit like David Wagner’s Town side in their promotion year.

No idea if they are in it for the long haul or if a Reading last season-like slide is going to occur.

This could be a war of attrition or a see-saw affair, we have no idea. A win would be a terrific result for either side.

A home draw would not be a bad thing here but it’s likely to be settled by fine margins - here’s hoping they go town’s way. minutes in total yet. The story of Bristol City’s season has been an inability to defend, and as such it really is worth Town gambling a bit on the break here.

It won’t be easy but it could open out quite a bit this game.

go for it, catch the right bristol who look iffy at the back and this could be a huge away win.

THE fixtures have been kind, this is a very acceptable home game after Town’s 3-0 win in the reverse fixture, but there are a few notes of caution.

Blackpool have shown themselves capable of catching anyone cold. They have also proved they can both grind and be more expansive when required.

The one thing they don’t tend to do is show any fear.

That home defeat will linger and they might feel they have a point to prove, but if the Terriers are serious this season about pushing on, this is a home game they need to win.

Three points may be the perfect gift to the fans.

Home win, must be really if town are serious about a top-half push.
