Corberan hoping for good news after Pearson shakes off injury

- By STEVEN CHICKEN

CARLOS Corberan is hopeful Matty Pearson will be able to keep his place in the Terriers line-up against his former club Barnsley, despite going off injured against Middlesbrough at the weekend.

The Huddersfield Town head coach revealed Pearson has been managing back pain since before Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium, but was nonetheless able to start the game.

The centre-back went off in the 37th minute after a three-way collision with goalkeeper Lee Nicholls and a Middlesbrough attacker and was replaced by Ollie Turton.

The Terriers boss has now confirmed Pearson has been working with the medical team on the training pitch and that if he is able to get through training today then he should be able to play at Barnsley tomorrow.

Levi Colwill has trained normally after being rested against Middlesbrough and looks set to return to the line-up in Naby Sarr’s place if Corberan so decides.

Meanwhile midfielder Alex Vallejo was set for knee surgery yesterday. All being well, the midfielder should be able to return to training in around four to six weeks.

Skipper Jonathan Hogg is set for a similar lay-off with his own knee injury, while right-back Pipa remains out after having groin surgery in August.

Jordan Rhodes last played for the first team against Fulham in the second league game of the season before suffering a back injury, but played an hour for the B team on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the striker is very unlikely to be considered for selection against Barnsley at this stage of his recovery.

Winger Aaron Rowe has missed the entire season so far with a broken toe and will not be able to return tomorrow.
