Shepherdess happy for her kids to leave flock
OUR Yorkshire Farm’s Amanda Owen is looking into her children’s future beyond their lives on the Ravenseat Farm.
The star wants her children to “move away” from the famous farm with the best intentions of bettering their future.
The 47-year-old is married to Clive Owen and together they share nine children aged five to 20.
As they start to get older, Amanda has detailed what she would like to see for the future of her children.
The Yorkshire Shepherdess spoke to Times Radio host Mariella Frostrup about where she sees her kids and believes making a break from the farm would give them more chances for a fulfilled life.
As the whole family have grown up on the farm taking on different roles you would think Amanda would want them to follow in her footsteps, however when asked how she felt about that she went on to say: “I think they all should run, I think they should run and then, a bit like a boomerang, they will all come back. I think that is part of life and at no point have I ever said, ‘This is the be-all and end-all.’”
She continued: “What they take away from the farm are proper life lessons and they learn empathy, kindness, hard work and common sense and that is a perfect starting point to everyday life wherever you should choose that to be.”
Amanda has slowly started letting her children spread their wings as we’ve already seen her eldest child Raven, 20, heading to university.
Meanwhile 17-year-old Ruben is looking to set up his own contracting business and has already bought himself a digger.
The TV star continued: “I think they should all head out and go and see the wider world and then, quite a few of them I think, will come back.
“For me, if I were going to give them any lesson in life, I would tell them not to put all of their eggs in one basket.
“To have your finger in a lot of pies is a good thing because times are changing and people’s thoughts are changing.”
Amanda then went on to say how she believed it would be in their best interest to get out of the small area and get experience doing something they’ve never done before.
