Oh so yummy...

REPORTER MELLISSA DZINZI’S VERDICT AS SHE TASTE-TESTS THE APPRENTICE WINNER’S DESSERTS

-

AFTER Huddersfield’s Harpreet Kaur won The Apprentice on Thursday, there was something I was desperate to try at Oh So Yum.

Harpreet Kaur, 30, was crowned as the winner of The Apprentice and bagged a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar for Barni’s – a business she and her sister Gurvinder started in 2018.

This money would help Harpreet expand the already successful six figure business which has two branches – one in Huddersfield and one in Leeds and open it up to a national audience by creating more stores around the country.

During the episode, viewers saw the Cookie Cups that even impressed Lord Sugar and I was curious to try one.

Viewers were also told during the same episode that she would be rebranding the six-figure business Barni’s to Oh So Yum. And after trying three of the desserts, I feel the new name is much more fitting.

The business, in Hillhouse, Huddersfield, opened at 5pm, and within 30 minutes a handful of people were coming in ready to order – myself included. I can only imagine it got busier as the night went on.

I have to admit I was overwhelmed and didn’t know what to order but the staff were amazing and helped me pick three different desserts which they thought I would enjoy. Zain, who served me, was very proud of Harpreet’s win and he knew his stuff when it comes to the desserts.

I asked him what the best flavours would be for me to try and in the end I went for the Red Velvet Cookie Pie, Jammy Dodger Brookie - a mix between a brownie and a cookie and the Birthday Cookie

Cup.

I don’t have a bad word to say about all three of them but it made me realise why parents tell kids to have their dinner before a dessert.

I was most excited for the Cookie Cup which was shown on The Apprentice. I just needed to try for myself after seeing them on social media and TV. For someone who doesn’t have a sweet tooth I really enjoyed it paired with the Unicorn ice cream. Is there anything I would change about them? Nothing at all but it wasn’t my favourite thing I had ordered.

The Jammy Dodger Brookie was straight up 10 out of 10, I don’t have a single bad thing to say. I don’t even know how it can be improved because it’s already so perfect. Whoever thought of this idea deserves an award of some sort. This was paired with the strawberries and ice cream.

And lastly, the Red Velvet Cookie Pie. Maybe I have been living under a rock but I wasn’t sure whether this cookie and pie pairing would work. It did and I was just left wanting more. There are no words to describe the three desserts that would do them justice. My suggestion would be for you to try them out for yourself.

My issue with dessert parlours is that the sweet treats are usually TOO sweet and after three or so bites, I can’t have anymore. But everything I had at Oh So Yum was spot on, it did cost me £23.40 including a Tango Ice Blast but it was worth it.

If you live near Huddersfield and

Leeds, you can grab the treats on Uber Eats and Just Eat.

The online store shows all the desserts you can order.

You can also buy merchandise including hoodies, notebooks, mugs, money boxes, tote bags and keyrings.
