Carlos wary over hectic fixture list

HUDDERSFIELD Town manager Carlos Corberan says his team will be unable to train in the next fortnight due to their hectic fixture schedule.

The Terriers go into tonight’s crunch clash against Luton Town at the John Smith’s Stadium not having played since the 1-0 win at Hull City on April 1.

However, they are then back in action on Friday when they host QPR. And that is quickly followed by a trip to fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough three days later, before another home fixture just four days after that against Barnsley to end a run of games which could decide their play-off hopes.

“We have had I think 11 days from the previous game to the Luton game. And now we are going to play four games in a row,” said Corberan.

“I was talking, for example, with my physical staff that Friday was the last day of high-volume of training because after this we need to change the strategy to help us to arrive in the games in the best way.

“And after the Luton game you cannot train, you can’t recover and prepare the game, you can’t recover and prepare, you can’t recover and prepare, so for me last week was one of the last weeks that we have to train in order to improve the quality of the team and to prepare for a game to the highest level.”

Luton are just a place and a point below Town but, due to goal difference, a win or a draw for the Hatters would see them move above the Terriers in the fierce battle for the play-offs.

Asked about what he expects from the visitors tonight, Corberan said: “It’s clear that the position that they have is deserved because for me they are competing really, really, really well. This is one team that never give up.

“And they have a very strong mentality that should create a very, very competitive game on Monday and this is what it’s going to be: a very competitive game.”
