AND NOW THERE REALLY ARE NO LIMITS FOR TOWN WATTO AIMING HIGH!

BOSS SETS SIGHTS ON TOP TWO FINISH FOR GIANTS

- By CHRIS OSTICK

IAN Watson has set his Huddersfield Giants players the target of getting into the top two of the Betfred Super League - and staying there.

The Claret and Gold continue what has been an impressive start to the new season when they take on West Yorkshire rivals Leeds Rhinos at Headingley tonight.

It is the start of a hectic few weeks which sees them face St Helens on Monday, Warrington next weekend and then Wakefield before their Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final against Hull KR.

But Watson believes it is a period in which his side can lay down a title statement.

“The next two weeks are always where the table starts to take shape,” said the Giants head coach.

“Our aim is to be in the top two consistently as we go forward. We want to be up there.

“I can’t see why we can’t be. It’s in our control to be in there, we’ve just got to make sure our standards are high and we play the way we want to play.

“We are quite a confident group anyway but as you start to get the wins, more and more confidence comes through.

“When you have a couple of changes and players are coming in and performing and you’re still picking up the wins, confidence rises again.

“You’ve got to perform at the best level to keep your place in the team. That competition for places really drives that chase for perfecting your performance.”

Giants will, however, be without Sebastine Ikahihifo after the prop suffered a broken arm during the cup win over Hull FC.

“Seb has a little fracture in his arm, we have seen some specialists and we think we can get it right in a short period of time by not plating it,” added Watson.

“Hopefully he will be only a couple of weeks. He wants to play and wants to win – we’re trying to get him back three to four weeks but the specialist said it could be longer so he could potentially be out of the semi-final.”
