My car was stolen and it feels like no one cares

TEACHER TOLD THEFTS HAPPEN ‘EVERY OTHER DAY’ FROM CENTRE

A PRIMARY school teacher is “heartbroken” after her car was stolen just metres away from the doors to a huge shopping centre.

Rachael Dunn, from Halifax, said security at the Trafford Centre near Manchester told her car thefts ‘happen all the time’ from the car park. Rachael has been left feeling like she’ll never get the car back.

She and husband Simon had headed over to the shopping centre as a birthday treat during Rachael’s Easter holidays. They parked in the Upper Regent 1 car park at about 1pm on Tuesday, April 12.

They spent the afternoon birthday shopping and eating out, but were dismayed when they came out around 5.30pm to find their car missing.

Rachael, 43, said: “There wasn’t anything around to raise suspicion. But we came back and our car was missing. Security said ‘it happens every other day.’

“Security say they are patrolling the car park, but they’re clearly doing nothing. I feel really let down by them and the police.

“If cars are being stolen every other day from the Trafford Centre, what needs to happen for someone to do something about it?”

She has since had a text from Greater Manchester Police saying there will be ‘no further investigation.’

The Ford Fiesta ST was worth around £10,500 back in 2019 when Rachael bought it – and she feels like police are “doing nothing”.

It took the couple four hours to get home and Rachael said she was “heartbroken” after their lovely day was “ruined”.

She added: “The police aren’t bothered, the Trafford Centre isn’t bothered. I feel like nobody cares and nobody is going to stop [the thieves] – so customers are going to be subjected to what we have been.”

Greater Manchester Police were contacted for comment.

A spokesperson for the Trafford Centre said: “Our security team takes customer complaints seriously and, when required, we assist Greater Manchester Police. We have very little car theft on site thanks to our use of ANPR and camera patrols.”

I feel really let down... what needs to happen for someone to do something about it?
