Corberan issues a warning ahead of tonight’s derby

- By MATTHEW HOLT @examinerHTAFC

HUDDERSFIELD Town boss Carlos Corberan has previewed his side’s home clash with Barnsley this evening, insisting the game will be ‘special’ for many reasons.

The Terriers are firmly in the hunt for promotion back to the Premier League this term and will be looking to move onto 76 points with victory at the John Smith’s Stadium. Barnsley have, however, suffered a difficult campaign thus far and at present sit rooted to the foot of the table, 11 points adrift of 21st placed side Reading. They can be relegated tonight.

With Corberan insisting a quick look at the table cannot predict the outcome of tomorrow’s encounter, the Spaniard believes his side must grasp the magnitude of each of their remaining three Championship games.

“The most important and most crucial game is firstly our game tomorrow against Barnsley,” began the 39-year-old.

“We are going to play with a more competitive team than I understand that we have right now because the importance of tomorrow is too high.

“Like every single time we take to the pitch, because even I know that tomorrow is going to be a special game because we play against an opponent that needs to win the game.”

Given the Tykes poor domestic campaign this far, Corberan did however insist that the same amount of off-field analysis has gone

He said: “The first reason of course is because the game is a derby and in derby games, the table does not mean anything.

“Secondly, the team [Barnsley] has been drawing a lot of games, just like they did against Fulham. I cannot begin to talk about the play-off’s yet because they have not happened yet, we cannot guarantee this yet.”
