Destination delicious!

New curry restaurant deserves all the hype

- By MEGAN SHAW

HUDDERSFIELD has a new bestrated restaurant on TripAdvisor and it’s none other than the top notch curry house Destination.

Destination, based in Slaithwaite, is raved about by customers from near and far, with a five star average on TripAdvisor and 4.8 average on Google Reviews.

The highly-regarded restaurant has also been given the seal of approval from MasterChef star Jim Gardner – and if it’s good enough for him then surely it’s good enough for me!

I booked a table for three over Facebook messenger, which was quick and painless.

The restaurant is very easy to get to, a central location in the middle of the village with plenty of on street parking and a free nearby car park if you can’t get outside.

Arriving, I was surprised by the size of the restaurant inside given it’s small and endearing appearance from the outside – it’s much bigger than I expected, modern and immaculately clean but still feels like a traditional and authentic Indian.

The menu is very impressive and everything sounds delicious, there is a wide range of dishes to choose from including some comforting classics such as chicken tikka masala and other newer creations for the more adventurous.

We opted for the crumb fried spiced soft shell crab and potato cakes, the jumbo king prawns and the lamb chops – and all I can say is ‘wow.’

The prawns were amazing, there were two jumbo prawns to a portion and they were absolutely delicious. They were cooked to perfection. The crab cakes’ crisp crumb coating was the perfect combination against the soft crab centre and the dish was complimented with a coriander chutney.

But the stand out starter for me was the lamb chops. The portion came as two double chops which helped keep the meat tender and moist. They had a welcome kick to them but certainly not overbearingly spicy.

Moving on to the mains, again we opted for three different dishes and each tried all three. We ordered the hariyali murgh, which was a chicken tikka and spinach curry, the dhaba murgh (a hot and fragrant curry with chicken thighs) and a laal maans, described as a boneless lamb curry marinated overnight in yoghurt and red chilli paste.

The chicken thigh curry was my personal favourite, it was really tasty.

The chicken tikka and spinach dish was again really delicious, the chicken breast was cooked beautifully.

The lamb dish was incredible, the lamb, much like the starter, melted in your mouth. We ordered two portions of pilau rice between the three of us and a garlic and coriander naan.

The naan bread was amazing, it was not your usual stodgy slab of dough, it was thin, crispy, garlicky and delicious.

You could tell so much effort had gone into each and every dish, if I could give this place over five stars then I would, it was the best Indian food I have eaten in a very long time. It certainly lived up to the glowing reviews and completely blew my expectations out of the water.
