Watto: We’re in good shape

- By CONNOR MURPHY

IAN Watson is feeling confident going into today’s Betfred Super League fixture with Warrington Wolves and believes that resting players after the hectic Easter schedule on Monday against St Helens has left his side in a good position to compete against the Wire.

“We’re in a really good shape. We rested seven players for the St Helens game, we took players out there that we thought needed to look after.

“There’s a lot of people saying they want to be in our first team, and they did really well. It shows the strength in our squad because we played well against St Helens. We managed to rest up our frontline players, and that’s a bonus for us.”

Jake Wardle has returned after a prolonged absence, and Watson indicated that the homegrown centre will return to the starting lineup for tomorrow’s game.

“We were hoping Jake

Wardle would have been back for the Saints game; Ricky (Leutele) and Leroy (Cudjoe) have been playing every week and doing every session, so they’ve played a lot of rugby. We wanted to be able to rest those guys up so it’s good to be able to have Jake and he’ll play tomorrow. This game is perfect timing for him now, he’s had a couple of training sessions and he’s getting to match fitness.”

The Giants Head Coach also gave an update on Theo Fages, who has returned to training yesterday and looks set to return into the Giants side for Thursday’s trip to Wakefield Trinity.

“Theo was back training with the team yesterday and today, he’ll be good from today.”

Huddersfield are looking forward to their first semifinal in a decade, and Watson told the press that he believed the games leading into the semi-final against Hull KR on May 7 are pivotally important, as his experience at Salford suggests going into the game with a positive record is vital for preparation for the game.

‘‘The games become more important in the lead-up to the semi. We want to go into that game with form; we want to go into these games and perform at a high standard so we’re going in with form. That’s the big one for us.

“When we were at Salford, we knew that when we went into games in form, we’d go in with confidence. We’ve been building our confidence and our momentum, and we want to continue doing that.”

Huddersfield are up against a Warrington side that have struggled to find form so far in the Betfred Super League, but Watson is weary of the threats they pose.

“Warrington are good at playing
