REG stepped up to plate says Warne

-

AFTER securing promotion back to the Championship with a win at Gillingham, Rotherham United manager Paul Warne is already thinking about next season and the Huddersfield Town defender he’d love to return to the club.

The Millers finished second in a very competitive League One and avoided what is likely to be a very difficult play-offs to win with the MK Dons, Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, and Wycombe involved.

Man of the match in the 2-0 victory that secured their promotion was Rarmani EdmondsGreen, the Terriers defender who has spent the year on loan with Rotherham and earned a lot of praise for his 28 appearances. He finished the season with three goals, two assists, and was a favourite among fans of the club.

The 23-year-old defender has enjoyed his time after a difficult season with the Terriers in 20/21 where as a unit their defence conceded the most goals in the Championship.

He made 16 starts in a season where Town used no less than seven central defenders. He was loaned out in the summer after new signings and a missed pre-season saw him slide down the pecking order.

Warne has liked what he’s seen this season and would love to have his squad back together for a charge at Championship survival next year. “I liked all my loan signings ... I would like to keep all three if I possibly could or consider it,” said the 48-year old now about to prepare for his sixth campaign in charge of the club, “especially with REG, he is a very Rotherhamesque player but respectfully Huddersfield might have him in their plans next year.

“They wanted him to play games and he has played no end and has done really well.”

A lot will depend on the Terriers’ own status next season as they enter the play-offs. EdmondsGreen signed a new contract in January to keep him at the club till 2024.
