Rhodes hails set-piece ace Sorba after free-kick

JORDAN Rhodes has hailed the impact of Sorba Thomas for the part he played in Huddersfield Town edging past Luton Town to book their place in the Championship play-off final.

The Wales international, who is returning from injury, claimed his 15th assist of a superb breakthrough season, whipping in a glorious free-kick to the back post to tee up the striker’s 82nd-minute winner after coming on as a substitute.

Rhodes, in his second Town spell, slid in from close range after escaping his marker Amari’i Bell to bag his 200th career goal and send Carlos Corberan’s men through to the Wembley.

When quizzed on Thomas’ delivery from set-pieces, Rhodes said: “He has been doing it all season. He has been a breath of fresh air.

“It was great to have him back on the field on Friday night. He has got that bit of magic that he can produce out of nothing.”

Thomas, who replaced Danel Sinani just after the hour mark, was delighted to play his part in Rhodes’ winner.

“I like to practice my set-pieces and for that one specifically I literally saw Jordan Rhodes back post and saw him free,” he said.

“I was thinking ‘if I get this ball on the money, I know he will be there.’ He showed a striker’s instinct and won us the game.”

When asked if he had ever scored a more important goal, man of the match Rhodes said: “I can’t think of one to mind. But I’m just happy to be on the field and to try and contribute. And Huddersfield Town going to Wembley has got a good ring to it!”

Rhodes, who scooped the man of the match award, added: “Special nights like that you’ll remember for a lifetime. That was the message before the game: to go out there and make it a memorable night and do ourselves proud.”
