RUN OF CRUNCH GAMES IN TOWN’S BID TO BEAT THE DROP
TOWN will be hoping that they can use their 1-0 victory over play-off chasers Millwall as a springboard to kick on and avoid relegation from the Championship.
Danny Ward scored the only goal at The Den as Town ended a run of five games without a win, and moved to within three points of safety.
It must be said that 21st place Cardiff have played a game fewer than Huddersfield, but Neil Warnock now has something to build on as he prepares to rally his troops for the season’s climax.
With that in mind, The Examiner has looked ahead to a crucial month of fixtures, which is more than likely to decide Huddersfield’s fate. ■■MIDDLESBROUGH (H) APR 1
The Terriers kick-off a busy and decisive month of fixtures by welcoming one of the most in-form clubs in the Championship to the John Smith’s Stadium.
Middlesbrough, who Town boss Warnock managed between June 2020 and November 2021, have lost just three of their last 21 league games (W16, D2).
■■WATFORD (A) APR 7
Chris Wilder succeeded Slaven Bilic as Watford boss earlier this month. The former Blades boss is the third person to take charge of the Hornets during the 2022/23 season.
His first three games have heralded one win, one draw and one defeat.
■■BLACKBURN ROVERS (H) APR 10
Blackburn Rovers may boast the second-best home record in the Championship but their recent form on the road provides grounds for optimism. ■■SWANSEA CITY (A) APR 15
Inconsistency has been a theme of Swansea’s season under Russell Martin. The Swans responded to three defeats on the spin with a 2-0 victory over Bristol City before the international break.
However, Swansea’s recent malaise has seen them plummet into 16th.
■■SUNDERLAND (A) APR 18
Sunderland’s pursuit of the play-offs has lost its momentum in recent weeks, with Tony Mowbray’s side registering just one win from seven in the Championship (D2 L4).
■■CARDIFF CITY (A) APR 29
As it stands, Cardiff are directly above Huddersfield in the Championship table and boast a three-point lead.
