BOSS CONFIRMS BACKROOM STAFF
HUDDERSFIELD Town head coach Andre Breitenreiter’s backroom staff have now been confirmed.
Asif Saric, Thomas Kleine and Andy Quy will join the Terriers as part of Breitenreiter’s coaching staff, while Kevin Russell will remain in his role as assistant coach.
Saric joins the club as assistant coach, with the pair having previously worked together at SC Paderborn and Hannover 96. The 59-year-old Bosnian spent his playing days in Germany and Switzerland before going on to coach in the former.
Fellow German Kleine, 46, also joins as an assistant coach. He made more than 300 appearances in the top two divisions of German football before turning to coaching, where he worked at Greuther Furth, Fortuna Dusseldorf and SpVgg Bayreuth.
Quy joins the Terriers as goalkeeping coach. The Englishman was a product of Tottenham Hotspur’s academy and made most of his playing appearances for Hereford United, before his career was prematurely ended through injury. The 47-year-old went on to work at Derby County, Aston Villa and Lincoln City, before spending 12 years with Stoke City. He most recently worked at MLS side Charlotte FC following a stint at Burton Albion.
Russell remains as an assistant coach at Breitenreiter’s request, with the new boss keen to retain an Englishman within his backroom staff. He was part of Jon Worthington’s caretaker team during the academy manager’s four games in charge.
Speaking about the new coaching staff he has assembled,
Breitenreiter told HTTV: “He (Saric) knows how it works to go up and he’s
very good in preparing training session and tactical view of the game. He sees what is happening on the pitch and he’s very close to me and I trust him 100 per cent. I took a second choice for assistant coach, Thomas Kleine. We work together the first time now, but I know him for many years.
“He has also so much experience as an assistant coach. He worked together with really famous coaches and he did it well. He also achieved a promotion with Dusseldorf, so it’s important to have people in your team that know how it works to go up, because then you know what is to do to have this success and to have this mentality.”
On having English members of his coaching staff in Quy and Russell, Breitenreiter added: “For us, it’s the first time in England, we speak English okay and we understand all the things, but we need some help the next few weeks, maybe for the whole season, we will see.
“Kevin is really good as an assistant coach and we need an English guy to make clear what we want to see in the training and to explain all the exercises.”
