Cops arrest man over attack with bat and axe

A HUGE police response was seen in Huddersfield as officers arrested a man as part of their investigation into a bat and axe attack in Leeds.
On Saturday, West Yorkshire Police were called to Winrose Crescent in Belle Isle, Leeds.
They were called to a disturbance in which a vehicle was attacked by a suspect with a baseball bat and an axe.
One other suspect was also seen with a handgun. There was no evidence of a shot fired from the gun and the police continue to investigate.
Now, the police have confirmed their presence on Salendine Nook close to the Sainsbury’s store on Monday afternoon was related to the Belle Isle incident.
In a statement, they said: “There has been police activity in the Huddersfield
area this afternoon in connection with an investigation into an incident on Winrose Crescent, Belle Isle. A 33-year-old man has been arrested and is in custody.”
Following Saturday’s incident, West Yorkshire Police said: “Detectives are investigating an incident involving a potential firearm in Leeds on Saturday.
“The incident occurred at 2.47pm in Winrose Crescent, Belle Isle, when there was a disturbance in the street involving the occupants of a number of vehicles. One vehicle was attacked by a suspect armed with a baseball bat and an axe while another suspect was seen with what appeared to be a handgun.
“A scene was put in place to undergo forensic examination and specialist searches. There was no evidence of a firearm discharge. Detectives from Leeds District CID are continuing to carry out enquiries into the incident.”
