Town boss not afraid to ring changes

-

HEAD coach Andre Breitenreiter is adamant Huddersfield Town can still beat the drop despite their poor run of form.

After Good Friday’s defeat, he said: “I see the potential and the quality but we have to finish and defend the goal.

“We stay positive. This is the only thing we should think about. If everything is negative, you never have a chance. The club has been in this situation for many years and I think positive and I’m sure it is possible. We are close to taking the points.

“We have to fight together for survival. We, as a coaching staff, have to do our job.”

Trailing 2-0 at half-time, Town improved after the break after Breitenreiter made a triple substitution. Rhys Healey, Ben Wiles and Pat Jones acquitted themselves well as the Terriers posed a greater attacking threat in the final quarter.

Healey claimed his first goal in Town colours to boost brief hopes of launching a remarkable late fightback.

“We made the substitutions to give many players the chance to show us if they are better,” said Breitenreiter, who confirmed Radinio Balker will be assessed after being forced off in the second half with a leg injury.

“They did it well. They played brave and with heart and passion, and Jones was quick and won many one-onones and tried bravely and this is what we want to see. He didn’t think too much about losing the ball and negative things.

“Healey did it really well and was extremely motivated at training. He also needed one shot to score a goal and this is what we also need.

“For sure, some players did not show the best performance and for that, you make substitutions.”
