Worrying situation for young family
A WEST Hull mum-of-three has been put in the frightening position of potentially living on the street.
Lilyth Coglan and her family rely on housing benefit from the council to pay their rent as Miss Coglan is a full-time mum with a 12-week-old baby, a three-year-old and a seven-year-old and her partner is currently struggling to find work due to his anxiety and depression.
Despite Ms Coglan stepping down from her degree at the University of Hull in
June after complications with her pregnancy and a traumatic birth, Hull City Council have tried to withdraw housing payments to Miss Coglan on three occasions despite her “suspended student” status, which entitles her to the money.
It seems sad that Miss Coglan should have to battle with the authorities and, in her opinion, be made to feel like she is being interrogated, for a benefit that she legitimately deserves and cannot do without.
Ultimately, we are all human and it is understandable that the authorities get things wrong from time to time, but for the same thing to happen to Miss Coglan more than once is a step too far, especially when homelessness is a real concern for the young family.
