AN ELDERLY man has thanked the people who helped him after a fall outside Beverley Hospital left him with a bleed on the brain.

Trevor Broome, 77, was just dropping his wife Yvonne off on August 22 at the hospital after she had taken a fall in her garden at their home in Brandesburton.

He went into the hospital with her, and when he went back to the car he fell on the footpath.

Mrs Broome, 70, said: “I had a fall in the garden so we called 111. They told us to go to the hospital and Trevor took me. I told him to stay in the car but he came in with me and waited and went back to the car and he fell on the footpath.

“He had a bleed on the brain. There was blood pouring out of his head.

“One woman saw him fall and ran across and put him in the recovery position.

“Someone ran in to get a doctor, there was dozens of people helping.”

Mr Broome was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary where he stayed for three weeks. For that time, Mrs Broome has been making the long journey on the bus from their home to visit her husband.

“I think we left for Beverley Hospital at 1.30pm that day, he fell at 3.30pm and I didn’t get home until 1.30am the next morning,” she said.

Now, the couple want to thank the dozens of people who rushed to their aid.

“Something like that really puts your faith back in humanity,” Mrs Broome said.

“We just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who helped. It is nice when people do something like this to help. There was about half a dozen there helping.”

She said her husband was recovering “slowly but surely”.

Mrs Broome said: “It is an uphill struggle but he is getting there. We have carers who come twice a day for me and him as I tore the ligaments in my leg.

“We just want to say a thank you to the general public.”
