Hull turn on the style to demolish poor Wilmslow

-

HULL proved far too good all round, beating

Wilmslow 55-12, with the game effectively won by half-time.

Head coach Gary Pearce praised his side’s attacking ability but said better execution of passes would have seen an even more emphatic margin.

A first minute try by Hull winger Mike Adlard, converted by Simon Humberston, set the scene for what was a one-sided contest.

After six minutes another long range attack by Hull saw number eight Joe Stafford storm in for a try.

Further tries came from a catch and drive awarded to hooker Tom Rice, a Lee Birch try which saw the winger jink his way through a static defence and a trademark try from centre Ali Heard, who brushed off a would-be tackler on his way to the line.

Humberston kicked one conversion and although the visitors fought back with tries from Harry Patch and second row Matt Shufflebottom which was converted by Bobby Maccullum, Hull were well ahead 29-12 at the break.

The second half saw Wilmslow hold out until the 59th minute but the floodgates opened and Hull scored four tries in the final quarter with Humberston kicking three more conversions.

Adlard’s pace saw him sprint away from the defence after 59 minutes.

Centre Steve Johnson rounded off a good performance when he burst through a tackle to go over after 70 minutes.

Stafford scored again when a superb pass from Humberston saw him run in from 30 yards out.

Hull’s final try came from centre Joe Martin who raced 57 yards after a Wilmslow attack broke down in Hull’s half, giving the hosts the satisfaction of scoring over 50 points as they secured a maximum haul and their third win in four games.
