Visitors are seeing city with new eyes

-

Since the voters of Hull increased the number of Liberal Democrat councillors at the Local Elections last May, they have smelt the whiff of possible power to run Hull City Council again after they were booted out in 2011.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Ryan Langley was on Radio Humberside complaining that cycle paths around Hull haven’t been kept in good condition for ten years.

Could the reason be that his party was in Coalition Government with the Tories and voted for the Austerity Policy, which has cut half of local authority budgets?

Their “Kingston upon Hull news” leaflet is dropping through letterboxes. It is full of complaints about Hull City Council. There are the usual photos of a group of Lib Dem Councillors posing around a pothole. Hull City Council has obtained funds to fill in potholes quickly by a designated pothole repair team. Just call Highways Dept on 01482 300300.

They complain that there is no cash to combat crime, when it was the Liberal Democrat Party, along with the Tories, that voted to cut police budgets.

It seems, according to their leaflet, they would save the NHS if their 12 Liberal Democrat MPS were running the country.

They would save our

NHS?! The Coalition Government voted for the Health & Social Care Act, which has caused chaos in the NHS. Private patients are jumping the queues, and money is wasted putting services out to private providers.

The transformation of

Hull has been amazing. Visitors are seeing us with new eyes.

Two Leeds visitors I met recently told me they had come for a weekend but needed a week to enjoy all the wonderful sights of the city centre.

Liberal Democrats voted against the City of Culture bid that is bringing tourists and money into the city.

E Charles.
