A POPULAR B&B has featured on a Channel 4 game show Four In A Bed, and it hasn’t failed to impress.

Family-run business The Railway Inn appeared in episode 27 of Four In A Bed on Tuesday.

The East Yorkshire pub, based in New Ellerby, is run by couple Lydia Perkins and Luke Mainprize.

With three generations at the helm of the pub, it has gone from strength to strength since Lydia’s mum, Sue, took over in 1999, despite the last train passing the former Railway Inn in 1964.

The pub had a challenging time ahead of them in the programme trying to win around their guests, who run B&BS across the country.

The episode started off with Lydia and Luke showing the other couples the ropes during a game of archery.

The group were then able to take a look around the pub and guest house and were very surprised by their findings.

One guest even declared the rooms as “awesome”.

The episode ran a lot smoother than others aired by Channel 4. Innkeepers are very often seen coming to blows over sleeping arrangements, cleanliness and the service.

However, almost all of the guests were delighted at their stay at The Railway Inn and things got better throughout the episode.

Over dinner, Lydia and Luke revealed how they had met while Lydia was running one of her parents’ city centre pubs and Luke worked in the kitchen there.

She said she was very proud of her heritage, which includes her nan, who was once the proud landlady of the Punchbowl in James Reckitt Avenue.

Guests Cathy and Janice said: “They should be proud of themselves, it’s a really lovely pub. Despite being so young they are the ones to beat.”

During breakfast the next day, guest Mary said the breakfast was “awesome” and her egg was “perfect”.

The only thing she took issue with was the fact the breakfast was served with a spread instead of butter.

At the end of the visit, all guests were required to fill out a survey about their stay at The Railway Inn.

All guests said they would be happy to stay at the inn again and were very complementary about almost everything there.

Last night’s episode saw Lydia and Luke invited to stay with Sarah and Pete, who run The Driftwood in Weymouth, before all of the guests take a trip to The Bull Hotel in Kent to visit Lygia and Mary.

The winners will be revealed during tomorrow’s episode.

Four In A Bed has been aired on Channel 4 since April 2010 and involves four B&B owners who take turns to stay with one another and pay what they consider fair for their stay. The winner is the establishment named best value for money.

It has been a hit with viewers and B&B owners alike and runs throughout the course of the week, featuring a different B&B visit everyday.

This week’s competition began on Monday night and featured the Holland Hall Hotel in Lancashire.

Four in a Bed airs Monday to Friday at 5pm on Channel 4.
