‘We’d love to bring back those trophies to our city’
HUMBER STREET SESH IN RUNNING FOR FESTIVAL AWARDS
Humber Street Sesh is once again in the running for two prestigious national awards by the UK Festival Awards – and it needs your help to win.
The annual Hull music festival, which started in 2012, has been nominated for the third consecutive year in the Best Medium Sized Festival and the Best Metropolitan Festival categories at the high-profile awards, which recognise the hard work, vision and creativity of the nation's festival industry.
Humber Street Sesh is up against some big names, with previous winners including Slam Dunk for Best Metropolitan Festival and End Of The Road Festival for Best Medium-sized Festival.
The outcome will be decided by the public who can vote online until Tuesday, October 30, with the awards ceremony taking place on December 6, at the Troxy in London.
Mark Page, festival director, said “We are delighted to be nominated for the third time by the UK Festival Awards. It’s great to be given national recognition by the industry.
“Hull has an amazing music scene and the awards would bring bigger audiences and further opportunity for the region’s musicians.
“We’d love to bring back those trophies to our city and we hope the people of Hull will get behind us and vote”
Humber Street Sesh started with crowd funding and has grown in capacity year on year, from an initial 10,000 people in 2012, to 32,000 this year.
This year saw a successful expansion to incorporate the west side of the marina over two days. The festival showcases homegrown talent and emerging talent from further afield and is known as a festival “for the people of Hull by the people of Hull”.
The 2018 festival saw more than 200 bands and acts perform over the weekend of August 3 and 4 at Hull’s Fruit Market and marina, and the new site of Island Wharf, West Marina.
Highlights included a performance by Turn And Face The Strange – The Story Of Mick Ronson, with special guests Woody Woodmansey and Spiders from Mars members, Hull Pride Take Over of Silent Disco, main stage headliners King No One and a host of other emerging bands from the region and beyond.
Two weeks ago, Humber
Street Sesh was awarded the Outstanding Medium Sized Festival Award 2018 by the Yorkshire Gig Guide.
