REECE Lyne insists he will keep fighting for an England spot despite being omitted from the 19-man squad to face New Zealand on Saturday.

The Hull-born Wakefield Trinity star was included in the series squad by head coach Wayne Bennett and started at right centre against France last week, but has been overlooked for the clash at the KCOM Stadium.

Recognised centres Mark Percival and Oliver Gildart are in the 19 and John Bateman, who has played in the three-quarters previously under Bennett, is also in the team but is expected to feature in the back row.

For Lyne, though, he will have to watch on during the Test at his hometown and whilst he is disappointed by that fact, the 25-year-old is eager to keep learning and forcing his way through the pecking order.

“It’s my first time in the camp and everyone wants to play and so do I don’t get me wrong, it’s disappointing,” Lyne told the Mail.

“It’s a three-match series and I understand it’s a team game and not everyone can play. I’m going to train hard and hopefully I can get involved in the next couple of weeks.

“But just in camp is a great experience as well and every day I am learning whilst being involved. Anything I can take from this camp and into my club rugby with Wakefield I will do.

“I’m 25 so hopefully I still have my best years ahead of me. Not getting picked is always disappointing but I’m supporting the boys. I’m looking to learn and get some experience and see how I need to prepare for the big matches.”
