‘BANNED FROM COMPLAINING ABOUT OUR DISGUSTING COUNCIL HOME’

COUPLE SAY WATER IS COMING THROUGH DOOR AND FLOOR IS SINKING

A HULL man claims he has been banned from calling the council for complaining about his “disgusting” home that is turning black with mould.

Ian Moran says his kitchen is freezing all year round as water comes in through his back door and the floor in his living room is sinking due to the damp.

Mr Moran, who lives at the address in Inglemire Lane with his wife, says Hull City Council is only “patching up” his home but the authority says it has responded to the issues the couple has raised and insists he has “not ever been banned from contacting the call centre”.

However, a letter sent by the council to Ian and his wife Jean states access via telephone to the Orchard Park Neighbourhood Housing Office, as well as the Members Support Office for two councillors, has been suspended for six months.

However, they are still allowed to call the council’s contact centre to report emergency property repairs.

Mr Moran said: “I don’t want to live in this house. I want to move, but they’ll only give me a one bedroom bungalow. I just don’t want to be here.

“I put the kitchen light on in the morning and water is coming through the floor. It’s getting worse and worse. We’re forecast this weekend for cold and rain again. I don’t know what we’ll do.

“The floor is sinking in the lounge. The floor is just going. It’s disgusting now. It’s getting worse and worse. It’s going black under the sink. I daren’t put anything in there.

“I just don’t want to live here.”

Mr Moran and his wife also claim that black mould is growing beneath their sink and say that they do not dare use it as they are unsure what is keeping it stuck on the wall.

In the council’s letter, it states that they have received 18 pages of contact logs from Mr Moran from 2017 and 2018

Mr Moran, who has lived in the house for less than two years, says he also refused to pay his rent for six weeks, holding out for the repairs as he sees them to be done, but he has since paid in full.

He admits he “went off his rocker” but he has since apologised and wants the council to listen to his worries.

They say they feel cut off from the council, who he believes have a responsibility to carry out the work.

“I can’t ring the council any more. I’ve been banned. I can’t speak to anyone,” he said.

“I’m not allowed to speak to them. Then when my wife does they won’t do it (the work). I went off my rocker once and I’m sorry, but I was just getting down.

“It hurts when you see all these people getting it all done.”

In response, a spokeswoman for the council said: “We would like to clarify that Mr Moran has not ever been banned from contacting the call centre. We have responded to all the issues Mr Moran has raised and we have nothing further to add.”
