Don’t play on streets

-

Iam writing in regards of the article published on May 18, that Hull City Council is working with national grass-roots movement “Playing out to help communities bring back old fashioned street play”.

An easy application process makes it simple to close roads to traffic, really?

It sounds to me that there wasn’t much research into consideration of others in regards to their well-being, public highway laws, health and safety and the threat of a £400 fine should you move your vehicle without them escorting you out at their convenience.

Many years ago the kids did play in the streets because of the lack of green or other public areas designated for that purpose, but throughout all those deprived times the government, local authorities, schools and the media voiced their concern telling one and all not to play on the streets, the green cross codes, etc, and that being the times of very few cars.

Now, I look down the streets and cars are parked bumper to bumper on either side of the road and kids with chalks in the middle of the road playing and running in between cars.

Kids are kids and, as we all know, will, without doubt, at some time or another do what they are not supposed to, but there is a playing field 50 yards away and Pearson Park at the bottom of the street, so grow up and teach your kids to be safe and not play on the street.
