HULL lightweight boxer Ryan Gibbons says he is in the best shape of his career ahead of his fight with Steven Maguire this evening at the KCOM Stadium.

Gibbons is heading into his third professional fight, this time at the Kingston Suite at the KCOM, following two wins and is starting afresh after a change of promoter.

The well-renowned Carl Greaves is now running promotions for Gibbons, 23, who is seeking to continue his development during the early stages of his career.

“I think I am in the best shape of my career so far,” Gibbons told the Mail. “I’m fitter and faster and I’m feeling good. My current situation is all about development. I’m looking to learn and continue developing my boxing skills.

“I’m fighting a good boxer in Stephen Maguire from Manchester tonight. With me only starting out I do four rounds and three minutes each round.

“The more experience you get under your belt the higher up the rankings you climb. Hopefully next year I’ll do six rounds and then eight, ten and twelve after that.”

Gibbons sees his switch to Greaves in terms of promotions as a big step forward in his career, with the boxer now looking to fight up to five times a year.

“The climb to the top of my division is steep because there are not many kids in there. It’s about picking the right fights at the right time,” Gibbons added.

“So far it’s been going well. I’ve changed manager recently to Carl Greaves and that’s

purely so I can get more experience and have more fights. I want to be fighting four or five times a year.

“Carl approached my dad with the interest of signing me and I was aware of boxers who had been getting more fights with him.

“Everything he has said and done so far has been bang on. He’s got us out in Newark in November as well.”

The doors open at the KCOM Kingston Suite tonight at 8pm, with the boxing schedule of three fights to begin at 8.30pm.
