Wigglesworth eyes next step of his career
MATTHEW Wigglesworth is convinced defending his Central Area title in Hull will provide the platform needed to take the next step in his career.
The Middleweight takes on Halifax-based fighter Jack Sellars at the Kingston Suite at the KCOM Stadium this evening as he looks to continue his undefeated start to life in the professional ranks.
Wigglesworth won the title in his last outing with a points decision win over the previously Ben Sheedy in Bolton and he will bring it back to East Yorkshire to defend for the first time.
While Wigglesworth may have his eye on bigger things in the future, Sellars is firmly in his crosshairs and he is determined to see him off in style.
“I’ve sparred Sellars before so I know him quite well,” the 27-year-old told the Mail. “I know I’ll have too much for him.
“He’s stepping up from super welterweight and I’m a natural born middleweight, by the time I’m in the ring on Friday night I’ll be 12st 12lbs and he won’t be able to cope with that over 10 rounds. You can’t walk in the rain without getting wet. I’m too fit, too strong and too good for him.
“Even though I’m a champion now I still train as a challenger. I wake up at 5.30am every morning for sprints with the coach and put my body through hell before going straight to work as a full-time mechanic and then back to the gym.
“I’m convinced that I’m destined for bigger and better things and defending the belt in Hull is just the first thing on the list.
“I’m a firm believer in the law of attraction, visualise, believe, achieve and I can’t see anything other than my hand being lifted in victory on the night, my mind just simply won’t allow it.”
