Joyriders screaming ‘like they were on a fair ride’ smash through man’s wall
GRANDDAD SLAMS DRIVER WHO DROVE OFF
A HULL granddad has slammed “joyriders” who ploughed into the front of his home, just meters away from his wife and grandchildren.
Reg Fox, of Willerby Road, west Hull, was sat in the back garden at his home on Saturday evening when a car carrying at least three people smashed through his garden wall as his family enjoyed their night in.
Mr Fox described hearing a “big bang” and “screaming” as the silver BMW went through his front garden wall at the junction of Willerby Road and Ridgeway Road.
But if that was not bad enough, he was left shocked to see the driver immediately reverse away and speed off, leaving well over £1,000 of damage behind him.
The wall was destroyed and part of the car was damaged and fell off in Mr Fox’s garden.
The grandfather said: “If it was a single brick wall then it could have gone straight through it and gone into the house.
“It reversed out and drove off. It must have done considerable damage to the car. The grill was left in the front garden. It’s joyriders we think.
“The windows were all open and everyone in the car was screaming like they were on a thrill ride, like at Hull Fair.”
One of Mr Fox’s neighbours even jumped in their car and tried to chase the culprits to get the car’s registration plate, but they managed to get away.
Now, he believes he could have to fork out up to £2,000 to fix the damage, although he is thankful none of his family were hurt.
“I was sat in the garden and my wife was sat in the living room with my granddaughter when it happened. We have a gazebo and I was sat in there,” he said.
“I thought, ‘what the hell was that?’ With it being a 40mph road and quite a busy junction, there has been quite a few accidents.
“My grandson looked out of the bay window and he saw it.”
Anyone with any information should call Humberside Police on 101.
