Come on down for a good stuffing!

AGIANT pillow fight is returning to Hull city centre next month. After a year off in 2018, the Hull Pillow Fight will see families and friends come together once again to cause as much mess as they want and have loads of fun at the same time.

King Edward Square will play host to the event this time around, having previously being held in Queens Gardens and Queen Victoria Square.

The fight has been organised by Chris Snell, 58, who says he took the idea from a similar event he saw in Budapest, Hungary, designed to provide a safe yet fun platform for adults and children alike to come together.

The “light-hearted” event usually attracts people of all ages and Mr Snell believes it is one of very few pillow fights of its kind that happens in the UK.

“We’re a much funner city. We’re more playful,” he said. “It’s an international thing. I came across it in Budapest but it happens across Europe.

“The idea behind it is just to have fun. It is just about making the city more playful. It’s more like a flash mob really. We just want people to turn up and have fun.

“It’s for anyone and everyone. In general, we usually get more adults than kids that turn up. We have adults fighting adults, kids fighting kids and adults fighting kids. It’s a lighthearted event so everyone takes care of everyone else.”

The event will take place in King Edward Square at 11am on Saturday, April 6, and is likely to last around 20 minutes.

Mr Snell has also asked that where possible people come equipped to help to clean up afterwards as the event notoriously leaves behind a lot of debris. He is also on the lookout for a pianist - the role of whom is to get the extravaganza underway.

“We’re looking for a pianist to get the event underway. We usually have a pianist at the event but the usual one can’t attend this year so we just want someone to play a bit of honky-tonk jazz to add a bit of fun to it,” Chris said.

“I think this is the fourth one we have done. We didn’t do one last year but we did one for the three years before.

“We ask that those who can bring a broom and a shovel so we can clean up after ourselves.”

Attendance does not need to be confirmed however anyone wanting to find out more and confirm their participation can do so by heading to the event’s Facebook page.
