Who’s been affected by quota rules?

-

THE RFL have moved to simplify their quota system which limits the number of overseas players clubs can sign.

Clubs were allowed sign seven ‘non-federation trained’ players and that will still be the case moving into the 2021 season, but the rules have been made considerably less complex.

Before clubs were allowed to sign up to five players from either Australia or New Zealand with a larger allowance of seven being made for players from Kolpak nations such as Tonga, Samoa or Papua New Guinea. However, to avoid confusion, all overseas players will be classed as ‘non-federation trained’ players, giving clubs more freedom to fill their quota however they wish.

As such, the Mail has looked at how every club is currently using the quota and how much room they have to manoeuvre for 2021.

As it stands, Wigan have the least overseas players with just four, while a host of clubs have decisions to make over how best to use their quota next year, with players coming to the end of their current deals those players are marked with an asterisk.
